This concrete groover hand tool creates a 1 inch depth groove in the concrete and is ideal for slabs with a 4 inch slab depth. Made from stainless steel these are used for decorative effect and also to protect the slab from random cracking from shrinkage which can occur in the period just after placement and before hardening.
Concrete professionals can control this random cracking by creating grooves in the hardening concrete to help release the stress from shrinking.

While cutting the groove, this tool also creates an “edge” in the concrete as it passes. They create a smooth control surface on both sides of the opening. This method works very well in contrast to a brushed finished concrete as seen below.
